Dumbbells are fantastic for a wide range of weight training exercises. Unless you're an advanced weight lifter or athlete, a set of dumbbells going up to 50 lbs and a good workout plan can get you amazing results. The problem is that getting a set of dumbbells, even used, can be a big hassle. If you want the full range (pairs of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25... up to 50) be prepared to spend some money, and use up space to hold all those weights. Enter the SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells: with just this one pair, you can select whatever weight you want and begin exercising immediately.
This is a huge space saver and - really! - cheaper than purchasing an entire dumbbell set, even used, from local stores. Plus, most importantly, the weights feel great in your hands with a nice grip. From bench and overhead presses to lateral raises, curls, and lunges, you can activate and work just about every muscle group very well.
The only reason they get a 4/5 is that the locking mechanism is finicky. This kicks in if you haven't adjusted the weight selection dials properly. But in my experience, sometimes even when you DO make your selections properly, it can require a little jiggling of the dials to get the locks to release. It's a minor annoyance but it does take away slightly from an otherwise very convenient product.
